Our History

The Swan Bowls Club, located in Guildford, Western Australia, boasts a rich history spanning over 125 years, with its founding year commonly recognized as 1897. This club has been a vital community institution, offering lawn bowling opportunities and serving as a social and recreational hub for Guildford and its surrounding areas. Over the decades, it has played a significant role in promoting local sports, particularly bowls, and has greatly contributed to the social life of the community.

Some key historical points about the club include:

Foundation and Early Years: Established in 1897, the Swan Bowls Club emerged as one of the pioneering bowling clubs in Western Australia. In its early years, greens were established, and club facilities were developed, which have since expanded and evolved.

Community and Social Hub: As Guildford expanded, the Swan Bowls Club became a central point for social gatherings, community events, and sports, providing a venue for residents to participate in and watch lawn bowling competitions.

Competitive Legacy: Throughout its history, the club has fielded competitive bowling teams, competing in various divisions and pennant competitions. The goal to return to Division One, maintain competitive teams in other divisions, and develop a junior program highlights the club’s ongoing commitment to competitive success.

Modern Initiatives: Today, the Swan Bowls Club is focused on modernizing its facilities, including plans to install an astro turf green and refurbish the club to meet contemporary needs. The club's focus has also expanded to include junior competitions and enhancing its community involvement.

The endurance of the Swan Bowls Club over more than a century is a testament to its significance in the local community, making it a prominent feature of Guildford’s sports and social landscape.
